MASCHINEN KRIEGER - GROSSERHUND
This is a personal project that I worked on in my spare time. It's based on a model kit I built from the Maschinen Krieger series created by Kow Yokohama in the 1980s.
I wanted to challenge myself by working exclusively off of a physical model with no photographic reference or any image overlays in the modeling viewport - simply having the object in front of me.
Modeled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter - initially using some procedural materials as a base, and then a lot of hand-painting over top as the procedural materials tend to look too basic and predictable.
I chose to do the rendering in Unreal Engine 5, partly to refamiliarize myself with it - as it had been a few years since I had worked in that engine, but also Unreal Engine just works so nicely for rendering, and it's really come a long way since I used it last.
